We’re delighted to be saying hello this March to a new venue, the Old House At Home in West Wittering. This is our first regular venue on the Manhood Peninsula, which lies south of Chichester and extends to Selsey, the southern tip of which is known as Selsey Bill. You will find us here on the second Wednesday of every month from 8:30 pm to 11:30 pm. Our first event at the Old House At Home is on the 10th of March.

David and Linda have hosted George’s Regis Jazz Band at The Gribble Inn on many a jazz night and this has led to the formation of a band within a band, in the form of what is known informally as The Gribble Band. Although the line-up changes to accommodate other commitments and life events, the essential core of players is:

Chris Newman on piano

We now welcome Simon as the new landlord. We will be playing on Tuesday evening, the 1st of December 2009 as previously arranged. Further engagements at The Gribble will be discussed in the coming weeks. Come on down – we would love to see you there and Simon will be very pleased to meet you!

Earlier, we were there for the Austin 7 car club at their annual Autumn Amble and the Bognor Regis Sands Of Time Festival. We braved the wind and were grateful that nothing blew off or was blown away.

Let’s not forget that there are two months of the year to come and half of October still lined up on the starting grid. October’s next event is Woodie’s Wine Bar and Brasserie on Thursday the 15th, followed by the Unicorn Inn at Heyshott on Friday the 23rd of October. We end the month with our regular “double tap”, the White Hart at Petersfield on Thursday the 29th and St Mary’s Gate Inn on Friday the 30th.

November runs by the regular schedule – The Rising Sun on Sunday the 8th of November from 1-4pm, Woodies on Thursday the 19th, The White Hart at Petersfield on Thursday the 26th and St Mary’s Gate Inn on Friday the 27th of November.

In December there are one or two variations. We are back at The Gribble Inn at Oving on Tuesday the 1st of December and we are at the White Hart at Petersfield on Thursday the 10th. Running later in the month is the Rising Sun on Sunday the 13th. We are playing at Woodies on Thursday the 17th. We will be at St Mary’s Gate in December rather earlier that usual as “our Friday” falls on the 25th, Christmas Day. Our December “Special” will be held rather earlier than usual on Friday the 18th of December. St Mary’s Gate is a very well attended event so if you fancy your chances then don’t waste any time!

George’s Regis Jazz Band will be playing on the 3rd Thursday of every month with their first engagement on the 23rd of July 2009.

Chichester is a city in West Sussex on the south coast of England. The city’s history as a settlement dates back to Roman times and is home to a 12th century cathedral as well as  some of the oldest churches and buildings in Great Britain.

Chichester is a local government oasis with three levels of government managed from the city and also a transport hub and cultural centre with a Festival Theatre and two art galleries.

The city is home to Chichester Jazz Club. The Chichester Real Ale & Jazz Festival is a regular summer fixture although the musical spectrum has expanded considerably in recent years. The Oaklands Beer and Jazz Festival was launched in the latter part of May 2009 in a bid to move back towards  traditional style jazz.

Woodies Wine Bar & Brasserie has an excellent restaurant which is regarded as one of the best in Chichester so why not book a table and come and enjoy an evening with George’s Regis Jazz Band!

We will be strolling to the Royal Norfolk Hotel playing as we go and then returning to the band stand to play static.

Heyshott is the birth place of manufacturer and politician Richard Cobden who was a leading light in the Anti Corn Law League. Other notable former residents are chess historian Harold Murray and prominent politician, diplomat and academic Philip Noel-Baker.

Heyshott enjoys the pastoral care of St James’s Church and you will find numerous country walks in the area. Heyshott is widely known for its annual “Harvesting The Old Fashioned Way” festival and less so for its Bonfire and Firework display which is held on a Saturday evening near to the 5th of November.

While we are a little early for the harvest festival and considerably in advance of  firework night, on Friday the 17th of July 2009 you will be able to enjoy live jazz from George’s Regis Jazz Band from 8.30pm to 11pm. For full details see our calendar.
